Day 66: Prince Rupert

Prince Rupert: "Canada's wettest city, with 2,590 millimetres of annual precipitation on average... 240 days per year receive at least some measurable precipitation, and there are only 1230 hours of sunshine per year, so it is regarded as the municipality in Canada which receives the lowest amount of sunshine annually".

Luckily the Pioneer Guesthouse & Hostel, located in an early 20th century Japanese bunkhouse, is a comfortable place to hang out on a rainy day. There has always been a large Japanese and Chinese population in Prince Rupert, people who first came over to work in the fish canneries, in the port and on the railroad alongside the European immigrants and the local Tsimshian people. And in fact the city is closer to Japan than to Europe!

And luckily, the city has a wonderful museum all about the history of the Northwest Coast and the peoples who live in the region, located in a building inspired by the traditional longhouse construction.
