I lived in Campbell River, halfway up the east coast of Vancouver Island, between the ages of 11 and 18, and kept going there for occasional weekends and holidays for a few years thereafter, but I had not been back since my parents moved away from the Island almost 30 years ago. Back now, with my daughter, staying with my former piano teacher and her husband! They took us on a tour past the places I used to live, past the parts of Campbell River that had changed and those that had not. We saw deer crossing the road on the way up to our old house. In the evening we had barbecued salmon and then we went to - what else?- a piano recital! The gifted young performer, 20 year old Carter Johnson, was a former student of my very first piano teacher! So it was an evening of musical reunions!
