Days 24 - 25 - 26: Washington, DC
In the capital city of the USA on Pride weekend! It's been an odd blend of art galleries, Pride events, and socialising with Elisabeth and her friends. I knew Elisabeth from home, as she was my neighbour's au pair for two summers and we played some flute duets together; she recently moved to Washington and she didn't have room to host me herself in her small flat , but she connected me with a friend who lives only a few blocks away and was going away for the weekend, and he let me stay in his flat in an art deco style building with a front door that makes you feel like you're entering a spaceship.
Here are a few photos illustrating the whirl of colour that has been this weekend in Washington!
On my last morning in Washington I went for a walk in the National Zoo. I don't usually go to zoos, but the flat I've been staying in is only a block away and the zoo is free, as it's part of the Smithsonian. So in order to stretch my legs before my eight-hour train right to Pittsburgh I went down and walked from the lions to the pandas and back again.
